We are implementing our new website. Some features may not work properly.

About us

Dataful is a Bangladesh-based public-interest data organisation. We collect, structure and analyse data, build evidence, investigate questions that matter, and create ways for people to explore and use what we find.

We believe data becomes valuable when it helps people understand what is happening, examine the evidence for themselves, and ask better questions.

Why Dataful exists

Public data often exists without being truly usable

Important public records are often scattered across documents, websites, databases and institutions. Even when they are technically public, they may be difficult to find, compare or understand.

Dataful works on that gap. We bring fragmented records together, structure them, document where they came from, and examine what the resulting evidence can establish.

That work can become a dataset, a research project, an investigation, a tracker, a portal or journalism through DataXplainer. The form changes depending on the question; the emphasis on evidence does not.

How we work

Questions lead the work

We do not begin with a format. We begin with something worth understanding, then identify the records, data and methods needed to examine it.

Principles

What guides our work

These principles shape how we collect, analyse, publish and explain evidence.

01

Evidence before assertion

Claims should be supported by identifiable records, data or other verifiable evidence.

02

Transparency

We explain sources, methods, assumptions and limitations so readers can understand how findings were reached.

03

Public interest

We prioritise questions where better evidence can improve public understanding, accountability or access to information.

04

Usability

Evidence should not stop at a report. Where possible, we make underlying data and records easier for others to explore and reuse.

05

Independence

Research and editorial findings should follow the evidence, regardless of partners, funders or institutional interests.

06

Correction

When evidence changes or we find an error, we update the record and make meaningful corrections visible.

What we do

Different outputs, one evidence process

Our work can take several forms depending on what the question requires.

Open data

Datasets, trackers and portals

We make public-interest records easier to explore, compare and reuse.

Research

Research & evidence

We examine patterns, changes and relationships through structured analysis.

Investigation

DataXplainer

We turn selected findings into public-interest journalism that explains what the evidence means.

Data products

Public-interest technology

We build platforms that keep evidence accessible beyond a single report or publication.

Learning

Training & methods

We share practical approaches to data, verification, research methods and evidence-led journalism.

People

The people behind the work

Dataful brings together a small core team and voluntary experts working across data, research, information integrity, media, human rights and technology.
